The aim of the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) is to publish scientific researches that evaluate current and future problems related to Islamic economic thought and history, Islamic finance and instruments, participation banking and Islamic banking and finance from an original perspective and to contribute to the literature in this field.

The Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance covers original scientific research, including original ideas and model proposals, critical, evaluative studies using quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods on issues related to Islamic economic thought and history, Islamic finance and instruments, participation banking and Islamic banking and finance.

Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) is an open access academic journal that includes plagiarism scanning, pre-evaluation, blind review and editorial reading processes.

Articles submitted to the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) must comply with the specified format. Otherwise, if it is found that the rules are not followed in the preliminary control phase, the article may be sent back to the author without forwarding it to the referees and may be requested to be edited or rejected outright.

Before submitting your application to the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF), please review the “Purpose and Scope” page of the journal. Out-of-scope manuscripts are not included in the evaluation process.

Language
The publication languages of the journal are Turkish, English and Arabic.

Publication Types:
Research Article: Original research articles are studies that have academic value and present original and scientific results on topics appropriate to the scope of the journal.
Review Article: These are articles that describe, discuss and evaluate the current state of knowledge or a topic and are expected to guide future studies.
Research Note: These are articles in which a subject is discussed in a scope and quality that does not reach the size of an article. Research notes are expected not to exceed 4000 words. Research notes are not taken into the refereeing process; they are evaluated by the editor and taken into the publication process. Research notes do not include Turkish and English abstracts. In addition to the Turkish title, the article should include an English title and 5-8 keywords in both languages.
Book Review: Reviews of studies published in the last 5 years are prioritized. Review articles are expected to be prepared by experts in the field. Only introductory and summary articles are not accepted. For book reviews, an original title (Turkish and English) and 5-8 keywords (Turkish and English) should be determined independently from the title of the book being reviewed.
Symposium/Workshop Presentation: These are articles that include the evaluation of national or international academic meetings. In the introductory articles, the academic contribution of the meeting should be addressed.

Article Submission

For the acceptance of articles, the DERGİPARK system provided by TÜBİTAK is used.

1. Manuscripts should be submitted through the Submit Manuscript system at https://dergipark.org.tr/jief. Manuscripts should be accompanied by a Cover Page indicating the type of article and including details about the article, the text file of the manuscript, and a Copyright Agreement Form signed by all authors.

2. The research to be submitted to the journal must be original and must not have been published or accepted for publication anywhere before.

3. Papers previously presented at a scientific meeting may be accepted, provided that this is clearly stated.

4. Information about the authors (name-surname etc.) should not be included in the main text submitted.

5. If there is more than one researcher in the articles, they should be added to the “Add Author” section of the second stage of the system.

6. Information about the authors of the article (title, name-surname, institution, institutional phone number and e-mail address, if any) should be sent in a separate file.

7. The works of authors who do not submit the Copyright Agreement Form will not be published.

8. All manuscripts submitted to the journal go through a double-blind peer-review process.

9. After the article is uploaded to the system, corrections may be requested in line with the reports from the referees.

10. The uploading of the articles to the system by the author is accepted as the application for publication of the article.

11. All legal responsibilities related to the articles published in the journal belong to the authors.

12. Manuscripts not accepted for publication will not be returned to their authors.

13. In cases where there is more than one author, the contribution of each author should be indicated and the document should be signed by the responsible author.

14. In articles published in the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF), all authors should be listed with their ORCID numbers. Authors are required to include their ORCID information on the cover page during submission. 15. Members of the Editorial Board are subject to the journal's publication processes applicable to all authors for manuscript submissions.

16. More than one research article by the same author cannot be published in the same issue.

Manuscripts prepared in accordance with the journal's writing rules are accepted via the website https://dergipark.org.tr/jief and pre-acceptance, field editor review, referee assignment, revision, rejection and acceptance processes are carried out online. 

Title/Cover Page:

The Title/Cover Page must be uploaded as a separate page and the Title/Cover Page must contain the following information:

-Title of the article
-Category and type of article
-Name(s) and surname(s) of the author(s)
-Author(s) institutional information (institution, city, country)
-Email address(es) of the author(s)
-ORCID numbers of the author(s)
-Information on financial support, conflict of interest and acknowledgements.

General Formal Specifications

Studies should mainly include the following elements: Turkish title, abstract and keywords; English title, abstract and keywords; extended abstract, main text sections, references, tables and figures.

Abstract: At the beginning of the article, there should be an abstract of 150-250 words in Turkish and English, which briefly and concisely expresses the subject. One line space should be left under the abstract and keywords consisting of at least 5 and at most 8 words should be given in Turkish and English and should include at least 1 JEL code. The abstract text should be written in 10 font size, 1 line spacing without paragraph indentation. References, figure and table numbers should not be mentioned in the abstract.

Extended Abstract: In this practice to increase the international visibility of the studies, an extended abstract (EXTENDED ABSTRACT) of 1000-1500 words in English should be submitted for Turkish and Arabic studies. The extended abstract reflects the main discussions in the main sections of the article (Introduction/Literature, Methods, Results, Discussion/Conclusion, etc.).

Title: It should be compatible with the content and should be written in Times New Roman, 12 pt, capital and bold letters, centered.

Main Text:

Quantitative and qualitative studies should include Introduction, Method, Results and Discussion sections. The Method section must include subsections on Sample/Study Group, Data Collection Tools and Procedure. The model subsection should only be included if an original model is used.

There should be 2.5 cm margins on the page edges and page numbers should not be given.

Paragraph indentation should not be made in the text of the article and 1 line (12 pt) space should be left between paragraphs. Subheadings can be used in the article, but should not be numbered.

Your paper should be between 5000-9000 words excluding references.

Tables and Figures: Tables and figures should be numbered and titled. Table/figure numbers and captions should be written at the top, centered in 11 pt. Table and figure captions should be italicized, 11-point font and the first letter of each word should be capitalized.

The bibliography should start with a new page and should have the following features:

The Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) adopts the “American Psychological Association” 6th edition (APA 6th ed) citation system for citation and referencing. For information: https://apastyle.apa.org/6th-edition-resources

The bibliography should be placed at the end of the text with 11 font size and 1 line spacing. All references used in the text should be indicated in the Bibliography. Works that are not cited in the study are not included in the References. In articles written in languages other than Latin letters, the bibliography (references) written in Latin letters must be included.

References should be arranged in alphabetical order. Works of authors with more than one work should be listed in chronological order.

Citations and References: Our journal uses APA 6th edition citation format. Manuscripts submitted to the journal should be prepared in the American Psychological Association (APA) style in the reference system, footnote format and bibliography. You can automatically select APA Sixth Edition from the References tab in Microsoft Office Word program. You can add the sources you want from the Add Citation tab, and it will be added to your work as a citation within the study and as a Bibliography from the References tab at the end of the study.

Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) is an international refereed journal published twice a year (June and December) in one volume and two issues.

Ethical Principles

The Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) strictly adheres to Research and Publication Ethics in all types of articles. The Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) adopts the ethical publishing principles set out by the “Directive on Scientific Research and Publication Ethics of Higher Education Institutions”, “Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)”, “Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)”, “Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA)” and “World Association of Medical Editors (WAME)”. These principles are expressed under the title Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing. Submitted manuscripts should be appropriate to the purpose and scope of the journal. The manuscripts to be evaluated must not have been published before or in the process of evaluation in another journal, and the content and submission must be approved by each author. After the manuscript is submitted to the journal for publication, no name can be deleted from the author list, no new name can be added, and the order of authors cannot be changed without the written permission of all authors.
Plagiarism, duplication, false authorship or denied authorship, research/data fabrication, article slicing, slicing and dicing, copyright infringement, and concealment of conflict of interest are considered unethical behavior. All articles that do not comply with accepted ethical standards will be removed from publication. This includes articles that contain possible irregularities and improprieties detected after publication.

The content of a published article does not necessarily reflect the views of the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF). 

Publication Ethics and Editorial Policy

The publication processes implemented in the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance are the basis for the development and dissemination of knowledge in an impartial and reputable manner. The processes implemented in this direction are directly reflected in the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions supporting the authors. Peer-reviewed studies are studies that embody and support the scientific method. At this point, it is important that all stakeholders of the process (authors, readers and researchers, publishers, referees and editors) comply with standards for ethical principles. Within the scope of the publication ethics of the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance, all stakeholders are expected to carry the following ethical responsibilities.

Manuscripts are subjected to plagiarism scanning (DergiPark/Turnitin) at the initial submission stage. The plagiarism report is not binding on its own; although the similarity rate is expected to be less than 20%, the validity of the findings reflected in the report is decided by the final evaluation of the Editorial Board.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

The author(s) submitting scientific articles to the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance for publication are expected to comply with the following ethical responsibilities:
 The work submitted by the author(s) is expected to be original. In case the author(s) utilize other works or use other works, they are required to cite and/or quote them completely and accurately.
 Persons who do not contribute intellectually to the content of the work should not be listed as authors.
 All manuscripts submitted for publication must disclose any conflicts of interest and relationships, if any.
 Raw data may be requested from the author(s) within the framework of the evaluation processes, in such a case, the author(s) should be ready to present the expected data and information to the editorial board and scientific board.
 The author(s) must have a document showing that they have the rights to use the data used, the necessary permissions related to the research/analyses, or the consent of the experimental subjects.
 In the event that the author(s) becomes aware of an inaccuracy or error in the published, early view, or under review manuscript, he/she has the obligation to notify the journal editor or publisher and to cooperate with the editor in the correction or retraction process. Correction and retraction procedures will be carried out in accordance with the process approved by COPE.
 Authors cannot have their work in the submission process of more than one journal at the same time. Each application can be started after the completion of the previous application. Studies published in another journal cannot be submitted to the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance.
 It cannot be proposed to change the author responsibilities (such as adding an author, changing the author order, removing an author) of a study whose evaluation process has started.

Ethical Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
The editors and field editors of the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance should have the following ethical duties and responsibilities based on the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as open access:

General Duties and Responsibilities
The editors are responsible for every publication in the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance. In the context of this responsibility, the editors have the following roles and obligations:
 Making efforts to meet the information needs of readers and authors,
 Ensuring continuous development of the journal,
 Carrying out processes to improve the quality of studies published in the journal,
 Supporting freedom of expression,
 Ensuring academic integrity,
 Maintaining business processes without compromising intellectual property rights and ethical standards,
 Demonstrating openness and transparency in terms of publication in matters requiring correction and clarification.

Ethical Responsibilities of Referees
The evaluation of all studies by Blinded Review directly affects the quality of the publication. This process provides confidence through objective and independent evaluation of the publication.

The Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) applies a double-blind review process. In this process, the identities of the authors are concealed from the selected referees. Peer review is conducted by external experts. All details that could lead the reviewers to recognize the authors are removed before the articles are sent to the reviewers. Likewise, the identities of the reviewers are kept confidential when their comments are forwarded to the authors.
Reviewers cannot contact authors directly, and reviews and comments are communicated through the journal management system (dergipark). In this process, reviewer comments on the evaluation forms and full texts are forwarded to the author(s) through the editor. In this context, referees reviewing manuscripts for the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance are expected to have the following ethical responsibilities:
 They should only accept to review manuscripts related to their area of expertise.
 They should evaluate with impartiality and confidentiality.
 If they think that they are faced with a conflict of interest during the evaluation process, they should refuse to review the study and inform the editor of the journal.
 In accordance with the principle of confidentiality, they should destroy the studies they have reviewed after the evaluation process. They can only use the final versions of the studies they have reviewed only after publication.
 They should make the evaluation objectively only in relation to the content of the study. They should not allow nationality, gender, religious beliefs, political beliefs and commercial concerns to influence the evaluation.
 Evaluate in a constructive and courteous manner. They should not make derogatory personal comments containing hostility, slander and insult.
 They should carry out the work they accept for evaluation on time and with the above ethical responsibilities.

1. Confidentiality: Reviewers should keep all information about the manuscript confidential and treat it as privileged information. The content of the manuscript, author identity, reviewer evaluations, and correspondence with the editor should not be disclosed to third parties.

2. Objectivity Standards: Reviews should be conducted objectively, without personal criticism of the author. Reviewers should not be influenced by factors such as the author's identity, past work, or personal opinions in making their evaluations.

3. Contribution to Editorial Decision: Reviewers should clearly express their views with supporting arguments. In their evaluations, they should take a clear position for acceptance or rejection of the manuscript and provide concrete evidence to justify this position.

4. Urgency: Reviewers must complete their review within a specific time frame. It is important that they adhere to the refereeing deadline set by the journal and report any delays.

5. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers should not review manuscripts where there are conflicts of interest arising from competition, collaboration, or other relationships or affiliations with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the manuscripts. Where there is a potential conflict of interest, reviewers should notify the journal editor and withdraw from the review.

The Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance does not provide a clear guarantee of article acceptance. The journal strives to complete the peer review process as quickly and efficiently as possible, and in case of delays, authors will be notified and given the option to withdraw their manuscripts.

Membership: The institutional affiliation of each author is the institution where most of their work is done. If the author changes institutions, his/her current address can be indicated as an attachment. Addresses cannot be updated or changed after the article has been published. Author names are published as they appear in the accepted submission.

Author Identification: Authors are required to use their ORCID ID in the manuscripts submitted for review. The ORCID ID makes it easier for authors to track their work and connect with each other.

Ethical Responsibilities of the Publisher
The Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance is published by the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, International Research and Application Center for Islamic Economics and Finance (ISEFAM), which is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working for public benefit. In this context, ISEFAM Board of Directors acts with the awareness of the following ethical responsibilities regarding the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance:
 The editor is responsible for all processes of the works submitted to the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance. In this context, the editor is the decision maker, regardless of economic or political gains.
 It commits to the creation of an independent editorial decision.
 protects the ownership and copyright of every article published in the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance and undertakes the obligation to keep a record of every published copy.
 has the responsibility to take measures against any kind of scientific misconduct, citation mongering and plagiarism related to the editor.

Article Evaluation Processes

Blind Review and Evaluation Process All manuscripts submitted to JIEF are evaluated through a double-blind editorial reading process according to the following steps. In the double-blinding method, the author and referee identities of the manuscripts are hidden. For this reason, authors are requested to delete their names when uploading their articles to the system.

All manuscripts are subjected to the editorial reading process. The editorial reading process takes at least 15 days for each manuscript, although it may vary depending on the size of the manuscript and transliteration requirements.

1. Initial Review Process

The manuscripts submitted to JIEF are first evaluated by the editor. At this stage, manuscripts that do not comply with the purpose and scope of the journal, are weak in terms of Turkish, English and Arabic language and expression rules, contain critical errors in scientific terms, have no original value and do not meet the editorial policies are rejected. Authors of rejected manuscripts are notified within one month at the latest from the date of submission. Eligible manuscripts are sent to a field editor for preliminary evaluation.

2. Preliminary Evaluation Process

During the pre-evaluation process, the field editors examine the introduction and literature, method, findings, conclusion, evaluation and discussion sections of the manuscripts in detail in terms of journal publication policies and scope and originality. As a result of this review, unsuitable manuscripts are returned with the field editor's evaluation report within one month at the latest. The eligible manuscripts are taken into the referee assignment process.

The editorial board pre-evaluates the incoming articles according to the above criteria.

A detailed report is not submitted for articles that are decided to be returned or rejected as a result of the preliminary evaluation.

If the article successfully passes the preliminary evaluation, it is included in the refereeing process.

If deemed necessary, the Advisory Board members may also be consulted during the preliminary evaluation process.

As a result of the preliminary evaluation, the Editorial Board decides whether the article is suitable for peer review.

An article that does not meet the minimum requirements in terms of these criteria is rejected by the Editorial Board without being refereed.

3. Referee Appointment Process

Referees are assigned to the studies according to the content and expertise of the referees. The field editor, who reviews the study, recommends at least two referees from the IEFD Advisory Board or the Referee pool according to their areas of expertise or may recommend new referees suitable for the field of the study. The referee suggestions from the field editor are evaluated by the editor and the studies are forwarded to the referees. Reviewers must guarantee that they will not share any process and documents about the studies they evaluate.

4. Referee Evaluation Process

The time given to the referees for the peer review process is 6 weeks. Correction suggestions received from referees or editors must be completed by the authors within 1 month in accordance with the “correction guidelines”. Referees can decide on the appropriateness of a manuscript by reviewing the corrections, or they can request corrections more than once if necessary. Referee Reports Referee evaluations are generally based on the review of the manuscript in terms of originality, methodology, compliance with ethical rules, consistent presentation of findings and results, and literature. This review is based on the following factors:

a. Introduction and literature: the review report includes the presentation and aims of the problem addressed in the study, the importance of the subject, the scope of the literature on the subject, the timeliness and originality of the study, and the compatibility of the title, abstract and article content.

b. Methodology: The evaluation report includes opinions on the appropriateness of the method used, the selection and characteristics of the research group, information on validity and reliability, as well as the data collection and analysis process.

c. Findings: The evaluation report includes opinions on the presentation of the findings obtained within the framework of the method, the accuracy of the analysis methods, the consistency of the findings with the objectives of the research, the tables, figures and visuals needed, and the conceptual evaluation of the tests used.

d. Conclusions and recommendations: The evaluation report includes opinions on the contribution to the literature, suggestions for future studies and applications in the field.

e. Style and expression: The evaluation report includes opinions on the inclusion of the title of the study in the content, the proper use of Turkish, and the language of the full text in accordance with APA 6 rules.

f. General evaluation: The evaluation report includes opinions on the originality of the study as a whole and its contribution to the educational literature and practices in the field. During the evaluation process, referees are not expected to make corrections according to the typographical features of the manuscript.

Complaints, Appeals and Feedback:

The Editors (together with Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University) will take responsive measures when ethical concerns arise regarding a submitted manuscript or a published paper. Any reported unethical publishing behavior will be investigated, even if it occurs years after publication. If the investigation determines that the ethical concern is warranted, the parties involved will be notified of a correction, retraction, expression of concern, or other note that may be relevant. This may include a formal notice published in the journal; a formal notice to the individual's employer/institution/organization; and a formal notice of misconduct to the relevant professional bodies.
Reviewers, authors, and readers may duly submit an objection or complaint to the editor and editorial board of the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF). The journal management/editor is responsible for resolving objections and complaints carefully.

The Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance also allows authors to self-archive versions of their work on their own web pages, institutional web pages and other repositories. Since the journal is an open access journal, there is no embargo period.
